Associated problems

Because hemiplegia is caused by damage to part of the brain, children with hemiplegia often have associated problems, including epilepsy, emotional and behavioural problems, and visual perception difficulties.

• Emotional and behavioural problems
  Studies suggest that over half of all children with hemiplegia have significant emotional and behavioural difficulties.
• Epilepsy
  At least one in five children with hemiplegia also have epilepsy.
• Visual perception difficulties
  Some children with hemiplegia may have visual perception difficulties.
