David’s Trust has a limited welfare grant scheme. This is available to people with cerebral palsy, and their families and carers who live in the boroughs of Greenwich, Lewisham, Waltham Forest and Redbridge.
Grant applications for up to £500.00 per family per year, will be considered by trustees on a monthly basis. In cases of exceptional need, larger sums may be considered from Scope’s Response Service. Money will be given to those with the greatest need.
Grants will be given on a flexible and individual basis but are not there to replace or supplement what should be provided by the local authority. Finance could be given for a variety of equipment (from specialist toys to standing frames) to household essentials like flooring or furniture. Grants may also form part of funding to achieve a larger goal, like a contribution to spending money on a family holiday, or a ‘dream outing’ or experience for a child or adult.
The fund cannot consider requests for any ongoing or pre-existing commitments, like:
• Medical treatment and therapies
• Education, training and research
• Household expenses and debts
• Respite care
• Anything to do with cars
• Holidays abroad, unless there is an exceptional reason
• Items already bought
The fund will not pay for anything that should be paid for by a statutory service or re-imburse you for debt.
