Film workshops
HemiHelp film workshops give secondary school-aged young people a chance to meet up and have fun while creating a short film. Participants get to grips with digital video technology in 21CC's cutting-edge studio at the BBC media village. Facilitators help participants explore and express their creative potential.

"Recently I went on a film making workshop at the BBC organised by HemiHelp. I really wanted to go to this workshop as it sounded like it would be great fun and interesting as I had always wanted to visit the BBC!
Before I arrived I felt excited as I had been looking forward to this workshop for a long time but slightly nervous as well as I didn’t know anybody. In the morning we were given a presentation about the workshop and were put into small groups where we had to decide on a topic for a news story. Then we were told how to use the equipment such as the camera and sound, and headed outside to shoot our story. This included asking the members of the public their views on our topics and even pretending we were somewhere else than The White City.
After lunch we went into our assigned room and we edited the film we had shot outside. One person from each group (which included me) were taken into a green room in which we learnt how to use it and prepared for hosting a news programme. Once the rest of our groups had finished editing our pieces, we went live and broadcasted our show in the next room so everyone could see what we had done throughout the day. Our backdrop was the BBC news studio which made me feel like a real newsreader!
My favourite part of the day was filming our report and meeting new people. I did make friends from this workshop who I am still in touch with and I would be really keen to go on other workshops with HemiHelp. Thanks to Helen for organising a great day!"
“Thank you for organising the film workshop. It was a brilliant day and I thought the workshop was great.
The best part was working with the film equipment because it was a new experience. Also I liked presenting the story because it was a main part in the group…. I would do it again because it was fun and enjoyable.
Thank you for a fabulous day. I really enjoyed myself”. Luke
